ABOUT THE STORY
Mundy Holyford is a freighter pilot in a world that is recognisable as our own, but has changed in ways that are sometimes subtle and sometimes profound. Living aboard his MuPu, he is used to travelling alone and keeping to himself. The discovery of a family secret sets him on a journey he never expected to make.
His life changes when he learns that his dead uncle had a child no one knew existed. Pursued by unknown forces, he needs to track down this person to find out who is following him and why. To this end, Mundy sets out on a journey that will take him far beyond the boundaries of his daily life and into a realm of danger for which he is ill-prepared.
What starts as a search for the secret child soon becomes a much larger investigation. As Mundy follows the trail across continents, he begins to realise that the people, places and events he encounters may be connected in ways he could never have anticipated.
THE JOURNEY
Mundy’s odyssey takes him across a much changed world where continents and countries have been rebranded, democratically elected governments controlled by corporate entities, and climate change has wreaked a catastrophic disaster. Each stage of his journey brings new people into the life of this determined loner forcing him to embrace family values that he thought he had escaped.
As he tries desperately to make sense of what is happening to his life, Mundy realises that he doesn’t know who to trust, who is helping and who is hindering his search; the normal rules of his previous existence no longer apply. The more he gets pulled into the mystery, the more difficult it becomes to separate coincidence from design and family history from something much more sinister.
THE WORLD OF 2084:
The world Mundy inhabits is recognisable, but it is no longer quite the world we know. By 2084, the multiple catastrophes of the early 21st century (Brexit, COVID, Australian bush fires, the Capitol riots, the Ukraine/ Russia war, climate change and more) have created an over-regulated, slightly dystopian world.
