THE SHAPE of RAIN

Cracking the hidden code – a conspiracy hidden in a song

When celebrity investigative reporter, Don Silver, is about to broadcast a major story about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He never makes it to the studio. Somehow, his fate is linked to the first moon landing in 1969, and the only clue to this lies in the lyrics of a thirty-year-old song.

At the same time, a seemingly innocent chat at baggage reclaim in Prague airport catapults music journalist, Jack Conrad, into a race against time to decipher the secret of this song. He is immediately plunged into a murky world of counter-intelligence, government lies, media manipulation and extreme violence.

From Prague to the Saudi Arabian desert and, finally, Seattle, Conrad’s search takes him into a world where nothing is quite what it seems. With his own life at risk and no idea who he can trust, he must unravel the mystery hidden in the song before those determined to keep the secret buried catch up with him.

THE STORY BEHIND THE STORY

The Shape of Rain began with a simple question: what if apparently unrelated events were connected by something hidden in plain sight? The novel brings together real historical events and locations with fictional characters to explore the uneasy relationship between governments, intelligence agencies, the media and the stories we are told.

Although the story is fictional, many of the questions it raises are rooted in the real world. How much should we trust what we’re told? Who decides which version of events becomes accepted as truth? And what happens when someone starts asking questions that powerful people would rather leave unanswered? In fact, around two-thirds of the events described in the book actually happened – is the other third of the narrative so unbelievable?
